Following it’s debut at the Auto Expo earlier this year, the Tata Kite 5 has been spotted on test, this time in Tamil Nadu. The compact sedan, seen here in the sunburst orange shade as the Tiago, is due for launch around the festive season.
Being a compact sedan, the Kite 5 is under 4m in length and is likely to have a wheelbase of around 2.47m. The boot space, meanwhile, will be around 330-litres. Inside, the cabin’s design is based on the Tiago which means it will get the same nicely laid out dashboard and good quality bits.
Tata will sell the Kite 5 in both petrol and diesel engine options. Whereas the petrol will be a 1.2-litre three-cylinder unit with 83bhp and 114Nm of torque, the more efficient diesel is a 1.05-litre unit with 69bhp and 140Nm. Both engines will be offered with a 5-speed manual as standard though there is a possibility of an AMT option too.
We expect the Tata Kite 5 to officially hit the showrooms during this festive season. It will be positioned alongside the more affordable compact sedans and compete with the upcoming Chevrolet Essentia.
