Tata’s maiden attempt at making a full-size MPV may have tanked, but the brand is now ready for a second coming with the new Hexa which will be more of a crossover offering. Having being spotted on test several times up till now, the Hexa will finally arrive at the next month’s Auto Expo.
While we have already seen the basic silhouette of the Hexa, this new set of spy shots reveal Tata’s signature mesh grille that will appear in their future cars as well. Also visible are the projector headlights, a muscular bonnet, turn indicators for the wing mirrors and twin tail pipes.
Inside, the cabin has been designed in keeping with Tata’s current design theme although there are also a few Aria-derived bits for the dashboard and the door panels. The steering wheel and the air-con controls, on the other hand, are from Tata’s latest range including the Zest and the Bolt.
The 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder, Varicor diesel engine that currently powers the Safari Storme VariCOR 400 will also be seen powering the new Hexa. The engine develops 154bhp of power and 400Nm of torque and will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox with a 4WD option.
Following its debut at the Auto Expo, the Tata Hexa will be put on sale with prices hovering around the Rs 11 to 15 lakh mark. This means the Hexa will have to prove its mettle against some stiff competition including the Mahindra XUV500, Hyundai Creta and the Renault Duster.
