The all-new Tata Harrier will be launched in India tomorrow. It will be launched with a single powertrain option across four variants. Expected to be priced in the Rs 16-21 lakhs price bracket, the Harrier comes as a rival to the likes of Jeep Compass and Hyundai Tuscon in India.
The Harrier was first showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo as the H5X Concept. The production-ready Harrier has retained most of the design elements from the H5X. It debuts the IMPACT 2.0 philosophy which is the new design direction from Tata. It sports a pair of low-placed headlamps while the grille is flanked by sleek, high-placed DRLs. The profile of the Harrier is stylish and masculine owing to flared arches, sloping roof and a floating effect on D-pillar. And at the rear, the Discovery Sport’s inspiration is clearly seen, with sleek yet sharp LED tail lights and a sculpted tailgate.
On the inside, the Harrier has an all-new cabin which takes its cues from the more expensive JLRs. There is an 8.8-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system which dominates the dashboard. And the wood-finished insert running across the dash adds a premium feel to the cabin. The features include an eight-way adjustable driver seat with a four-way adjustable co-driver seat, leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, electric ORVMs, cooled storage box, umbrella holder and many practical storage places all around.
The Harrier will be available in a diesel-manual combination at the launch. Under the hood will be a 2.0-litre four-cylinder Kryotec turbodiesel engine which produces 140bhp and 350Nm. The transmission is a six-speed manual sending power to front-wheels only. Although there is no AWD version, the Harrier does get a special ESP system with selectable modes for different conditions – normal, wet and rough.
