The next big thing in Tata’s all-electric shop is going to be the upcoming Harrier EV. The ICE-based electric SUV is set to make its India debut sometime in this financial year. The Harrier EV was first showcased at the Auto Expo 2023 followed by its debut at the Bharat Mobility Expo. In this article, we will see what we can expect from the upcoming Tata Harrier EV.
Exterior styling
The muscular stance, which has been one of the reasons for the popularity of the Harrier, has been carried over to its EV guise. The Harrier EV will carry a similar silhouette and structural design with subtle hints of its electric nature. Up front, it will flaunt a blanked-off grille with horizontal slats, full-width LED DRL, which is again carried over from the standard Harrier, and a reworked front bumper with vertical slats that also house the ADAS sensor.
On the sides, the profile is identical but is further highlighted by the aero-design, dual-tone alloy wheels. Moreover, the rear profile is hard to tell apart from the ICE Harrier except for the absence of the exhaust pipe. Meanwhile, we expect to see new colour options including the Seaweed Green paint scheme with the upcoming Harrier EV.
Interior and features
On the inside, the Harrier EV will get an identical dashboard layout which we have seen with most of the recently launched Tata models. Additionally, it will get a large 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 10-speaker setup from JBL with multiple sound modes, twin-spoke steering wheel, all-digital instrument panel, touch-based HVAC panel, powered front-row seats with ventilation, and a panoramic sunroof.
Also on offer will be features such as dual-zone climate control, auto-dimming IRVM, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, steering-mounted controls, wireless charger, ambient lighting, rear AC vents, and six airbags.
Powertrain, specifications, and range
The upcoming Harrier EV will be a more evolved product than the brand’s current electric vehicles on offer. It will feature a larger battery pack with an approximate driving range of 500km on a single charge. Moreover, the Harrier EV will be the first Tata EV to offer an AWD configuration.
Price and competition
Now, we expect the Harrier EV to carry a significant premium over the ICE version. It will likely be priced in the range of Rs. 25 lakh to Rs. 35 lakh (ex-showroom). At this price point, the Harrier EV will compete against the upcoming Mahindra XUV.e9 and XUV.e8, Hyundai Creta EV, BYD Atto 3, and the MG ZS EV.
