Tata Motors is bringing its new 1.2-litre TGDi engine into the market with its upcoming model, the Curvv coupe SUV. This 1.2-litre petrol motor was first showcased at the Auto Expo 2023 and now, it has a name to it. This new turbo-petrol engine will be called ‘Hyperion’ and will join the Revotron engine in the brand’s cavalry.
The 1.2-litre TGDi Hyperion engine is a three-cylinder unit which is BS6 Phase 2- and E20 fuel-compliant. The direct injection engine is capable of generating 123bhp at 5,000rpm and 225Nm of peak torque between 1,700rpm and 3,500rpm. This engine is developed using lightweight yet rigid aluminium for improved stiffness. Moreover, the automaker claims this new engine will deliver a balance of power, refinement, and efficiency. Notably, this motor will be paired with a six-speed manual and a seven-speed DCT gearbox.
On the other hand, the Curvv will also offer two more engine options – a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. Both of these powertrain are already on offer with the Nexon SUV. Upon its launch, the Curvv will be offered in three guises – petrol, diesel, and EV, and will compete against the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, and the Honda Elevate. Meanwhile, the EV counterpart will challenge the Mahindra XUV400, BYD Atto 3, MG ZS EV, and the upcoming Creta EV in the segment.
