Tata Motors is expected to unveil the Tata Altroz premium hatchback in the coming month followed by a launch around September. Ahead of this schedule, the test mules continue to be tested on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.
The carmaker had unveiled the Altroz hatchback along with the H2X concept earlier this year at the 2019 Geneva Motor show. However, they postponed the unveiling of this India-spec version by a month. It will now be shown for the first time in India sometime in August. For the uninitiated, the Altroz is the market name for the production-spec hatchback based on the 45X Concept exhibited at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. It boasts of Tata’s Impact Design 2.0 styling and will be underpinned by the company's new ALFA modular platform, which will also spawn more models in future.
There will be both petrol and diesel powertrain options. The petrol model of the Altroz will be powered by an 85bhp 1.2-litre petrol mill and even with an option of a 102bhp 1.2-litre turbo-petrol from the Nexon compact SUV. The diesel, on the other hand, will be a 90bhp 1.5-litre turbo-diesel unit. Upon launch, five-speed or six-speed manual gearboxes will be standard, while the automatic variants will be offered later.
Tata Motors will bring the much-awaited Altroz this festive season. It will then compete against the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz and even the recently launched Toyota Glanza in the premium hatchback segment.
