It all started in America and then United Kingdom and Europe followed suit. In the past, some thought of this as a noble idea, but none got into it owing to the lack of infrastructure and technology. But, if you are Tata it is not too difficult to get such things done. Ladies and gentlemen, Tata brings you truck racing in India.
In a press release yesterday, Tata motors announced their truck racing championship in India. The championship will kick-start on March 23, 2014 at the Buddh International Circuit in New Delhi. The T1 Prima truck racing championship will see six teams participating with a total of 12 Prima trucks scorching the tarmac. The event calendar has been added to the list of FIA (Federation International de I’Automobile) and FMSCI (Federation of Motor Sport Clubs of India).
However, considering the lack of a truck racing culture in our country your chances of seeing Indian surnames on the list are zero. In exchange of that we will witness internationally acclaimed drivers competing against each other.
The assault machine is a Tata Prima 4038 with a power rating of 370bhp produced at 2,100rpm, it will max out at 110kmph. A total of 22 key modifications were done to make the Prima trucks race ready.
The race day will comprise of two races a qualifier and the final race. The T1 Prima Truck Racing Championship will also witness two-time British truck racing champion, Steve Horne participating in it. Horne is one of the longest serving truck racers who has been a key player in encouraging multiple aspects of India’s truck racing championship.
The event is sponsored by Cummins, WABCO, JK Tyres, Castrol and Accenture who are the main sponsors, whereas Tata Steel, Setco Automotive, RSB Group and TRW Steering Systems Ltd. are the associate sponsors.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Karl Slym, Managing Director, Tata Motors said, “Through the T1 Prima Truck Racing Championship, weare introducing yet another pioneering initiative in the Indian trucking space.
