The upcoming hatchback from Tata Motors, the Bolt, was spotted testing in Ooty. This is just after the recent sightings of the Zest testing in Pune. It seems the company is making some last minute changes to the production version of the Bolt.
The Tata Bolt that was taking rounds was camouflaged, like the Zest, in a bid to hide the changes. However, the most evident change from the pictures posted is the absence of the chrome strip above the registration plate. The tail lamps are the makeshift lights on the test vehicle just to make it road legal and the conventional lights might be carried over. The test mule seems to have done away with the sporty rear bumper that was seen on the car displayed at the Auto Expo. The lack of the wiper at the back also makes us believe that this must be one of the base variants of the hatchback.
Since pictures of the rear profile of the car are only available, we cannot confirm what changes might be made to the front. There might be a different grille as seen on the Zest spotted testing. We are sure that the projector headlamps will be carried over in the production version as the company had earlier confirmed.
The Tata Bolt will be made available in both petrol as well as diesel variants. The petrol trim will be powered by the 1.2-litre Revotron turbocharged engine that produces 84bhp of power and 140Nm of torque. The diesel version will be powered by the 1.3-litre Multijet engine sourced from Fiat, which might be further tuned by Tata. All the versions will be equipped with the five-speed manual transmission, while the company might introduce the AMT (automated manual transmission) in the petrol variant.
Tata Motors unveiled the new hatchback, Bolt and the compact sedan, Zest at an event before the Auto Expo and showcased both the cars at the following biennial event. The company is still making some fine cosmetic changes to both the cars. The launch of the two cars might happen sometime soon.
