We have seen Tata testing the Bolt in a disguised avatar many times. This is the first time that the new hatchback was seen taking rounds without any camouflage around Tata Motors plant, Pune.
This car gets the smoked headlamps, projectors and alloy wheels which means this must be one of the top-end-variants. The camouflaged Tata Bolt seen earlier had clear lens headlamps sans the projectors which made us believe that it must be the entry-level variant. So it is pretty evident now that the company might not offer the projector headlamps on every variant as said earlier. The grille with a honeycomb shaped mesh has a single horizontal chrome slat and the round fog lamps are integrated into the bumper with black surrounds. The high and low mount stop lamps, chrome grille and tail lamps at the back are the same that were shown on the vehicles unveiled earlier before the 2014 Auto Expo.
Tata will make the Bolt available in both engine options- petrol as well as diesel. The petrol variant will be powered by the 1.2-litre Revotron turbocharged engine that develops 84bhp of power and 140Nm of torque. The oil-burner will be powered by the 1.3-litre Multijet mill sourced from Fiat, which might be further tuned by Tata. Apart from the manual transmission, which is expected to be seen in all the versions, Tata might equip one of the top-end petrol versions with the AMT (automated manual transmission).
Tata Motors has been continuously testing both, the hatchback, Bolt and the compact sedan, Zest, in our country. On a few occasions, the cars have been seen testing abroad as well. With the sighting of this vehicle without camouflage, we believe this is the final production version of the car and the launch might be just around the corner.
