The eagerly awaited Tata Bolt will have more than just performance figures to boast of. During the launch of the Revotron range of engines, Tata officials confirmed that the Bolt will get some segment best features. One of this has been listed on the official website of the upcoming Tata Bolt hatchback.
The website shows the Bolt will get three selectable modes for the driver. The three modes on offer are City, Economy and Sport. The description isn’t detailed as the product is yet to hit the market. But, what we assume is the driving mode option will be offered with the optional Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) gearbox in both the petrol and diesel models. The city mode might be where the driver slots the gear lever into ‘D’ mode, wherein the ratios would be set for the car to be peppy in traffic. The ECO mode might have gear ratios optimised to deliver best fuel economy figures with the transmission still in ‘D’ mode andthe sport mode might let the driver take complete control over the car and shift manually the gears through the ‘+’ and ‘-‘ functions.
The petrol motor that will power the Bolt will be a 1.2-litre turbocharged unit that produces 83.8bhp and 140Nm of torque. The diesel engine will be the same Fiat sourced 1.3-litre MultiJet motor. While the AMT would be available as an option, the standard equipment will be the 5-speed manual gearbox. Both transmissions are expected to have similar gear ratios and fuel economy rating as the AMT gearbox doesn’t add weight penalty as compared to traditional automatic gearboxes.
The Zest will be the first of the two most anticipated Tata products to hit the market this year when it goes on sale in August. The Bolt will follow a few months later and could be introduced during the festive season. These products have managed to create quite a sensation and Tata Motors will be banking on both these vehicles to take back its lost share in the market.
