Tata Motors’ big ticket launch of the year is not one, but two cars – the Bolt hatchback and the Zest compact sedan. The launch date of these cars have been anybody’s guess and now fresh rumours suggest that the launch might happen in August.
At the 2014 Auto Expo, Tata showcased both these cars in different colours and even optional trims. It is a given that the Zest will be equipped with an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT), there was no news on the Bolt getting one. Now, according to rumours even the Bolt hatchback may get the AMT transmission and the cars will be made in Ranjangaon, Maharashtra.
The Bolt and Zest are likely to share the same powertrains too; petrol power will come from a new 83bhp 1.2-litre turbocharged Revotron engine that will be used in both the vehicles. The 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel engine will power the diesel variants and is likely to be available in different tunes of 74bhp and 89bhp.
The AMT-equipped Bolt might prove to be beneficial to Tata’s sales figures as the only car in India now with the AMT technology is the Celerio which is in high demand. It is unknown if Tata will offer the AMT gearbox with the petrol and diesel engines, but we think the company will offer it only with the petrol motor.
