Tata AutoComp GY Batteries Pvt. Ltd., a 50:50 joint venture company between Tata AutoComp Systems Ltd. and GS Yuasa International, Japan, has announced the launch of 'Tata Green Batteries', a comprehensive range of automotive and inverter batteries in Nepal. TGY has introduced twenty-three batteries in automotive and inverter battery segments across passenger cars, utility vehicles, commercial vehicles, tractor, two-wheeler and inverter batteries.
TGY has appointed M/s. Mahavir Trade Concerns as their sole distributor for Nepal. Established in 1975 to trade in automotive spares in Nepal, M/s. Mahavir Trade Concern has a network of three branches and over 300 channel partners.
The launch of Tata green batteries marks Tata AutoComp's first foray into the automotive retail business. Since its inception, Tata AutoComp has been serving OEMs in the automobile industry. Tata AutoComp GY Batteries has targeted expansion of its reach to 200 retailers within a year and plans to increase it to 500 retailers by 2009-10. TGY has charted a growth plan of scaling up Tata Green batteries production capacity at its Pune facility in Maharashtra, India. The company is targeting an overall production of 1 million batteries for the financial year 2008-09, which will be further expanded to 1.5 million by 2009-10 and 2 million batteries by 2010-11.
