Tata Motors launched the much-awaited Altroz Racer in India with prices starting at Rs. 9.49 lakh (ex-showroom) and going up to Rs. 10.99 lakh. The new variants replace the i-Turbo range and will sit atop the Altroz line-up in India. We recently drove the car at the Coast race track in Coimbatore to get a first-hand experience. The Altroz Racer is available in three trim levels – R1, R2, and R3. The mid-level R2 variant is priced at Rs 10.49 lakh (ex-showroom).
Tata’s premium hatchback gets cosmetic changes with the most notable one being the blacked-out bonnet and roof along with the racing stripes.
Other than that, it gets 'Racer' badges on the front fenders along with 16-inch alloy wheels from the standard Altroz but a shade darker.
It can be had in three exterior colour options – Pure Grey, Avenue White, and the signature Atomic Orange. All three look good in the flesh but it is the grey option that stands out.
Inside, the Altroz Racer gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which is a larger unit than that of the standard Altroz. It even gets a seven-inch digital instrument cluster.
Other updates include a voice-assisted sunroof and a 360-degree camera. Altroz Racer buyers will also benefit from ventilated front seats, which is a first-in-the-segment feature.
In terms of safety equipment, the Altroz Racer gets ABS, ESC, and six airbags as standard. There’s also new leatherette upholstery with contrast stitching along with orange inserts around the AC vents and gear lever.
Powertrain options for the Altroz Racer
The Altroz Racer comes with a more powerful powertrain. This is a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine seen in the Nexon SUV. It produces 118bhp and 170Nm of torque and comes mated to a six-speed manual gearbox only, instead of the five-speed transmission that was available in the i-Turbo variants.
