Yesterday, Tata took the wraps off the Altroz hatchback at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Showcased first as the 45X hatchback at the 2018 Auto Expo, it’s a new premium hatchback and will be launched in India later this year.
The Indian automaker has released the dimensions and technical specifications for the hatchback. It measures 3988mm with a wheelbase of 2501mm. This is pretty much at the outer edge of the regulations of this segment. When compared to the rivals, it is the longest car in the fray but is second when it comes to wheelbase and is beaten only by the Elite i20 whose wheelbase is 2570mm.
For now, Tata has revealed that the Altroz will be offered with a 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 100bhp/140Nm. There is no word out yetabout the transmission, but we expect it to be a six-speed manual. We also believe that the diesel powertrain will be the 1.5-litre unit found in the Nexon. This engine produces 108bhp/260Nm and would make the Altroz the most powerful diesel car in the segment.
The Altroz is Tata’s answer to the Maruti Baleno, Honda Jazz, Volkswagen Polo and the Hyundai Elite i20.
