Maruti Suzuki’s premium hatchback Baleno has been a considerable contributor to the company’s overall sales. To help with constant rise in demand, the parent company Suzuki will be manufacturing and delivering 10,000 Baleno units this fiscal to Maruti. Production for the same will begin early nearly next year at Suzuki Motor Corp’s first wholly-owned facility in Hansalpur, Gujarat.
Speaking about it, MSI Chairman R C Bhargava said, “The whole project (Gujarat) is on schedule. We will be selling cars from made in Gujarat from February. That remains, there is no change in that. During this financial year about 10,000 cars from Gujarat will be produced and delivered to us for sale.” Suzuki estimates the total investment of around USD 1,400 million on the facility which will have two vehicle assembly lines that can produce 2.5 lakh units per annum each and an engine plant.
The wholly-owned Suzuki facility will supply vehicles and components exclusively to Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) which holds nearly half of the share in the Indian market. MSI’s two production facilities in Gurgaon and Manesar have a total production capacity of 1.5 million units annually. As part of safety upgrade, the automaker has now offered the ISOFIX child seat mounts as standard in the Baleno to ensure child’s safety in the vehicle. The Japanese automaker has also revealed the new Swift that is likely to be launched in India sometime by the end of 2017.
