The new Suzuki plant being built in Gujarat will start operation by manufacturing the production version of the vehicle currently codenamed the YCA. It seems almost obvious that the YCA is none other than the next-generation Wagon R which, for the first time, will be offered in both 5-seater and 7-seater designs.
A report from the Economic Times suggests that Maruti's parent company Suzuki has invited quotations for various projects (a.k.a models) that will be produced at the wholly-owned plant which is expected to come online in 2017.
Construction of the facility has already begun and this will be the Japanese automakers' first plant in India outside of Haryana. However, its birth has not been without controversy as the company believes that it would be better for them to invest while shareholders feel that this may not be in their best interests in the long run.
