The Celerio certainly stole the show when it arrived at the 2014 Auto Expo in February. The much-awaited hatchback mainly impressed us all with its all-new automated-manual gearbox, besides the aggressive pricing.
The car has now made its European debut at the ongoing Geneva Motor Show. Unveiled by Suzuki, the European-spec Celerio has been developed as an ‘A+ compact’ car. Suzuki says the Celerio offers a comprehensive package which promises best-in-class space and utility. Furthermore, the newly developed power-train produces very little C02 emissions, ideal for a small hatchback.
The European-spec Celerio is powered by what Suzuki calls the ‘K10C’ engine. It is essentially the same 1-litre, three cylinder engine that powers the Celerio here in the Indian market. Producing around 70hp and 90Nm of torque, this new engine gets a start-stop system for improved efficiency.
Suzuki has confirmed that the new Celerio will go on sale in Europe by the end of this year. When launched, the car will compete against the Skoda Citigo, the Hyundai i10 and the Fiat Panda in the A+ compact car segment.
