While we wait for Maruti Suzuki to launch the much-awaited S-Cross here in India, Suzuki has launched a new gearbox option for the Euro-spec S-Cross in the UK. This new gearbox is a new twin-clutch AMT unit for the S-Cross DDiS ALLGRIP model.
This twin-clutch AMT unit by Suzuki is the first gearbox of its type that Suzuki has offered to the market and the brand is confident that it will appeal to diesel buyers in the ever growing crossover segment. The new gearbox is available on the S-Cross DDiS ALLGRIP and will cost £1,350 (RS 1.34 lakh) over the conventional 6-speed manual gearbox equipped model.
The gearbox is a 6-speed automated manual transmission that incorporates hydraulically controlled clutches and a gear change assembly that enables it to be driven in a similar way to an automatic gearbox. The system utilises one clutch for 1st, 3rd and 5th gears and the other for 2nd, 4th and 6th gears. Paired with the Euro 6 compliant 1.6-litre DDiS engine, the gearbox also features paddles shifts behind the steering wheel.
Maruti Suzuki will soon launch the S-Cross in the Indian market later this year and while this new twin-clutch unit isn’t expected to feature in the India-bound cars, the more powerful 1.6-litre DDiS unit could make it here. When launched, the crossover model will compete with the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano, Ford EcoSport and the upcoming Hyundai Creta in the highly competitive crossover segment.
