Maruti has been quiet about upcoming cars for a while now, but we always were hungry for news about the xa-Alpha, Suzuki's answer to the Ford EcoSport. Now finally there seems to be a definite timeline to the compact SUV - Suzuki has announced that it will display a compact crossover called the S-Cross at the Paris Motor Show. The sketch shows a swoopy roofline unlike that of the xa-Alpha, but on the whole the S-Cross looks like an evolution of the former's design.
The S-Cross will share floor space with the rest of the range, but we'll be keeping an especially close eye on this one: it falls into the European compact car category, which stipulates lengths of 4100-4450mm for hatchbacks. With that kind of length it stands to reason that the S-Cross will be based on the Swift's platform and a few changes should see it duck under the 4000mm mark for India's excise duty benefits. We expect the car to be powered by the ubiquitious 1.3 Multijet for India, among one other petrol engine option. More details of the S-Cross shall be revealed as and when we get them.
