Suzuki will launch their premium compact crossover, the SX4 S-Cross, for the Malaysian market on November 20. It is expected to be priced in the range of RM 100,000-110,000 (Rs 18.42 lakh to Rs 20.27 lakh) and will compete with the Ford EcoSport and Mitsubishi ASX.
It was at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show when the SX4 S-Cross made its debut and it was evident in many ways that the car was a step-up from its predecessor. The vehicle is larger than the previous model and measures 4,300 in length, 1,795 mm in width, 1,575 mm in height and 2,600 mm in wheelbase.
A three piece horizontal slatted chrome grille, headlamps with projectors, DRLs and fog lamps can be seen in the front. Coming to the sides, the SX4 S-Cross gets a new design for the alloy wheels and sports a body cladding that gives it a muscular appearance. The interior is similar to the one in the facelifted Swift's cabin.
The SX4 S-Cross that will go on sale in Malaysia will be powered by the same 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that is available in the European market. This mill produces 118bhp of power and 156Nm of torque and comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission or a CVT automatic gearbox. The crossover will be available in both- 2WD and 4WD.
Maruti Suzuki had displayed the SX4 S-Cross at the Auto Expo in India at the start of this year. They plan to launch the crossover for the Indian market in early 2015. The company will retain the looks of the car, but for the Indian market, the 1.6-litre engine might be replaced by the 1.3-litre DDiS motor. This mill is currently seen on many cars from the manufacturer in our country.
