Suzuki has showcased the SX4 S-Cross at the ongoing Auto Shanghai Show in China. In the Chinese market, this iteration of the SX4 S-Cross ranges from 109,800 yuan (Rs 11.06 lakh) for the base variant to 154,800 yuan (Rs 15.7 lakh) for the top-of-the-line model.
The Suzuki SX4 S-Cross is a compact crossover that is larger than the previous variant. It measures 4,300mm in length, 1,795mm in width, 1,575mm in height and 2,600mm in wheelbase. It is the same car sold in some markets in Europe as a replacement to the SX4 hatchback. The most evident change is the meaty plastic body cladding that differentiates it from its predecessor. The car now features a three-piece horizontal slat chrome grille, projector headlamps, DRLs and fog lamps in the front and new bumpers at the rear. The alloy wheels get a new design as well. The cabin is similar to the Swift and the recently launched Ciaz in the Indian market.
Like the international markets where the SX4 S-Cross offered globally is powered by the 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, the Chinese market also gets the same specs. However, we don't expect the car to be launched in India with this engine option. This mill might be replaced by the 1.3-litre DDiS motor that is currently seen on many cars from the manufacturer in our country. The transmission systems might include the five-speed manual transmission or a CVT gearbox.
Maruti Suzuki will soon bring the Indian-spec of the SX4 S-Cross to the Indian market. This model made its debut in India at the 2014 Auto Expo and gets a few changes specific to the Indian market. The company has been testing the crossover on Indian roads since then and will soon launch the car in the range of Rs 12-15 lakh bracket. With this addition to Maruti Suzuki's line-up, the car will also make an entry in the highly competitive mid-size crossover segment, which includes the Mahindra Scorpio, Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and more.
