Suzuki has launched the Swift RS in the Malaysia market for 79,388 RM (Rs 14.66 lakh). The Swift RS is based on the Malaysia-spec GLX variant and is a cosmetically upgraded version of the car. A report from Paultan suggests that the RS moniker stands for ‘Reinvent Style’ rather than ‘Racing Sport’ or ‘Rally Sport’.
The Swift RS on the outside gets a body kit which comprises rear diffusers, side skirts and a rear spoiler. Other external changes include LED daytime running lights, alloy wheels finished in a shade of gun metal, orange-coloured roof and a similar orange border that runs along the base of the body kit. The Japanese automaker is offering the car in a single shade which it calls Superior White.
Inside Suzuki has fitted the Swift RS with two-tone sporty leather seat covers, leather door trim and a 2-DIN Kenwood infotainment system with a reversing camera. The layout and the rest of the feature list remains the same as the stock Suzuki Swift GLX variant.
Mechanically the Suzuki Swift RS is powered by a 1.4-litre K-Series petrol engine that produces 93bhp and 130Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four-wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission.
When compared to the Indian-spec Swift RS which was launched as a limited edition last year, the Malaysia-spec car seems a lot more feature loaded but this is down to the fact that the demands of the consumer from the country are a lot more than the Indian market thereby justifying the higher price.
Will we get another Swift RS with similar features? It seems unlikely as the equivalent variant of the GLX in India is a lot more Spartan than its foreign counterparts.
