-To be offered in standard and Sierra variant
-1.2-litre K-Series and 660cc Kei spec engine expected to be on offer
-Cabin design and feature list very similar to India-spec Swift
Ahead of its debut next month, the brochure of the next generation Jimny has been leaked onto the interweb. What we see in the leaked brochure confirms our speculation based on a myriad of spy shots of the vehicle that we have been seeing over the last one year.
The 2019 Jimny will be offered in the standard setup and a more off-road oriented Sierra variant which is wider, gets bigger wheels and is expected to have AWD as standard. Both models, shown in the photos, get projector headlamps, alloy wheels, external spare wheel and blind spot monitor on the left side ORVM.
We already know that the car will get a cabin very similar to that of the India-spec Swift with many of the elements actually being carried over to the Jimny. It’s a mini SUV which means the rear seats fold flat for additional storage space.
The Japanese market, where this car will debut, is expected to incorporate it into the Kei-car spec 660cc petrol-engine with AT and AWD on separate variants. However, globally, we expect this car to debut with the 1.2-litre K-Series motor as well as the 1.0-litre turbo petrol motor that currently powers the India-spec Baleno RS.
Now, logically since the Gypsy is on its way out, the Jimny could serve as a viable replacement for the legendary jeep. However, there is no word on the same from Maruti Suzuki and given how tightly packed Maruti Suzuki’s current budget line up already is, it is hard to see a place for the Jimny in India, at present.
