The (Maruti) Suzuki Ertiga has been launched in the South African market for 159,900 Rand (Rs 8.8 lakh). The SA market gets only the petrol engine option but also gets the four-speed AT in addition to the five-speed manual.
The Ertiga model range in South Africa comprises five variants, GA, GL, and GLX. All variants are powered by the 1.4-litre K-Series engine that produces 93bhp and 130Nm of torque. All variants expect the base GA can be had with either the five-speed manual or the four-speed AT.
In terms of features the GA is equivalent to the India-spec LXi variant while the GL and GLX are equal to the India-spec VXi and ZXi variants. In terms of safety, the SA-spec Ertiga gets dual airbags and ABS across all variants.
It almost seems certain that this car has been manufactured and exported from Maruti’s plant in North India since it already exports the MPV to Indonesia and Algeria, the latter being an LHD market.
The South African market is where India-based manufacturers send most of their petrol models which thanks to India’s love for diesel engined cars are now mostly excess in production. In terms of numbers it is believed to be where India was 15 years ago but will soon catch up thanks to the vehicles it has today.
