- India launch in 2025
- Built on new Heartect-e platform
Introduction
The production-ready Maruti eVX has been christened the e Vitara and revealed ahead of its global launch in 2025. It will first go on sale in Europe and Japan before an India launch in summer 2025. However, the eVX will be produced worldwide from Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat plant.
Crucial numbers
The e Vitara measures in at 4.23 metres with a wheelbase of 2.7 metres, putting it on a level with most cars that it is expected to compete with in the future. It will be offered with two battery pack options – 49kWh offering FWD and a 61kWh pack which will get FWD and 4WD.
The 49kWh battery pack has been mated to a 142bhp/189Nm-producing motor. The more powerful 61kWh pack can be had with an output of either 171bhp/189Nm in 2WD guise or 181bhp front motor and 64bhp rear motor in 4WD guise. The torque for the AWD package stands at 300Nm, the most powerful to ever come out of a Suzuki model in the last 20 years.
The e Vitara is the first vehicle to be underpinned by Suzuki’s new Heartect-e platform, which will be the basis for future electric models like the Baleno, Jimny, Ertiga, and Swift.
Interior highlights
Of all the things we have seen in the e Vitara, the interior has become the most crucial as it points to the direction that the automaker will be taking with its cabins in the future. Some of the major highlights include the one-piece display, a new design for the centre console, vertical air vents, and an updated design for its signature flat-bottom steering wheel. At first glance, the design is minimalistic yet appears to be functional with buttons for everything. However, they have managed to make everything very Maruti Suzuki-like and that will help in the larger scheme of things to bring people from ICE Maruti cars to electric Maruti cars.
Feature list
The feature list is expected to include things like Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, connected car technology, and a full LED light package. Suzuki is also likely to offer multiple forms of fast charging, V2L and V2V as a part of the electric package.
Made in India for the world
The e Vitara will be produced for the global markets at Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat plant. As mentioned above, it will be launched in Europe and Japan first before an India launch in the summer 2025. However, the car will make its Asian market debut at the 2025 Auto Expo in January. It will go up against cars like the Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, Honda Elevate EV, Mahindra XEV.e9, Hyundai Creta EV, and the Kia Carens EV.
