Suzuki is said to be developing a new supercharged motor, which will be a modified version of the K12B ‘Dual Jet’ engine and will be introduced by 2016. The addition of a supercharger will boost the performance and the appeal of Suzuki cars.
The 1.2-litre K-series Dual Jet engine might start the proceedings for Suzuki in the small capacity forced induction engines. The 1.2-litre K-series engine is very refined and rev-happy and although it was marred down by a weak bottom-end the addition of a supercharger will probably negate this.
Suzuki displayed the facelifted Swift for the Japanese domestic market at the Tokyo Motor Show this year. Technically the Dual Jet engine gets twin injectors per cylinder and the claimed efficiency figures were 26 kpl. The addition of a supercharger will make this engine more powerful, but there is no information on the power output or whether the supercharged engines will get twin injectors per cylinder. A report on Suzuki fans website reads that Suzuki will plonk in a supercharged or turbocharged 1-litre engine in the Swift.
In India, the Swift, Ritz and Dzire are powered by the 1.2-litre K-series engine which produces 87bhp and 114Nm of torque and an increase of 10-20 per cent in the power and torque output can be expected with the addition of a supercharger. However, there is no news on Maruti Suzuki launching these powerful engines in India. But if they do, it will excite the car enthusiasts in India who are starved for affordable performance products.
