Suzuki China has turned 20 and has decided to celebrate the occasion by creating a special edition Swift hatchback. Based on the last generation Swift, which is still sold in China, the car gets a host cosmetic changes both inside and outside. The car we in India called the Esteem sedan was originally known as the Swift in China and was launched there as a hatchback in 1993 when Suzuki began operations in partnership with Chang’an Motors.
On the outside, the anniversary edition gets wine-red paint job, chrome exhaust, 20th anniversary edition badges, special alloy wheels and a white roof mounted spoiler. Inside, the car gets sporty seats, sporty pedals as well as wine-red fabric for the seats.
The China spec car is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol mill that produces 105PS. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic. The 20th anniversary Swift will be launched at the end of August and is priced in the range of 72, 000 Yuan (Rs 7.15 lakh) to 82, 000 Yuan (8.14 lakh).
The Swift in India will complete 10 years in 2015 and has been one of the Japanese automakers most successful models to date. It is likely that we too will see an anniversary edition in 2015.
