Following its European debut at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, Suzuki’s new global small car – the Celerio, will go on sale in the UK from February 2015. Known across the world for its range of compact urban-friendly cars, Suzuki has optimised the Celerio to offer class-leading cabin space while retaining the compact dimensions.
The Celerio, as a result, boasts of class leading cabin space and a 254-litre boot. The wheelbase, too, is fairly impressive at 2,425mm long, providing ample room for up to five occupants. The Celerio, as we know, is also sold in India by Maruti Suzuki. But unlike the India-spec version, the Euro-spec Celerio gets a host of safety features including six airbags (driver, passenger, side and curtain), ABS and ESP.
Other standard features on the top-spec models include air-conditioning, alloy wheels, audio system with USB and Bluetooth connectivity, electric mirrors and lots more. Suzuki has revealed that the Celerio will be powered by the familiar 1-litre, three-cylinder K-Series petrol engine. The brand will also offer its new three-cylinder DualJet engine with a higher compression ratio and twin fuel injectors. To extract as much efficiency as possible, the Celerio will be fitted with a stop-start system that will enable the vehicle to achieve a claimed figure of 27.7kmpl. The K-Series engined model, on the other hand, is rated at 23.25kmpl.
Alongside the manual, the Celerio will also be available with an AMT gearbox as seen in the India-spec model. The new Celerio will compete against other small cars currently available in the UK. The list includes the Hyundai i10, Kia Picanto, Toyota Aygo and the Volkswagen Up!
