Remember the Authentics sedan concept that Suzuki first showed at the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show and more recently, at the 2014 Auto Expo? Well, the concept is set to pave way for an all-new mid-size sedan – spy shots of which have already surfaced, thanks to Chinese car blog Car News China.
Caught on test in China, the Suzuki Authentics sedan will be manufactured in the local market by the Changan-Suzuki joint venture. The car is set to make its debut at the Beijing Auto Show in April, before going on sale in China sometime during the second half of this year.
Based on the same platform as the S-Cross crossover, the Authentics sedan will be sold alongside the former as far as the Chinese market is concerned. Here in India, Maruti Suzuki is likely to launch this new model under the Ciaz nameplate by the end of 2014. When launched, the Ciaz will replace the ageing SX4 which has been around in the market since 2007.
Under the hood, the Authentics sedan will be powered the same 120bhp 1.6-litre petrol engine which is found in the S-Cross. For the Indian market, we expect Maruti Suzuki to offer the same engine, besides the 1.3-litre DDIS diesel engine; having said that, the sedan could also be offered with a more powerful 1.6-litre version of the same.
