Prior to the arrival of the fourth-generation WRX, Subaru has rolled out one last limited edition of the current model. Based on the high performance Impreza, this one is dubbed as the WRX STI tS TYPE RA (we don’t know why), and is unfortunately exclusively for the Japanese market.
This special edition is a race tuned version of the already hard-core WRX STI, focused solely on clocking really fast lap-times. This emphasis on race experience sees the WRX STI tS TYPE RA get stiffer suspensions with improved struts, coils and dampers, a more direct steering and gold-callipered Brembo brakes. The ride sits on a set of Bridgestone Potenza tires mounted on 18-inch black alloy wheels from STI.
Like many other limited-edition Subarus, the car will be characterised by the selection of colours, which in this case, includes a Pearl White, Tangerine Orange Pearl and BlueMica. The model also flaunts special badges, new leather steering wheel and a unique gear knob with red stitching.
To make the nomenclature further grim, the model will also be available with an optional package and will be called the STI tS TYPE RA NBR CHALLENGE PACKAGE! The package adds further agility to the car thanks to a dry carbon rear spoiler, 18-inch BBS wheels, special decals and Alcantara-lined Recaro front bucket seats.
The limited edition is powered by the turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that sits inside the standard Impreza. The 310PS of power the engine makes is sent to all four wheels via a six speed manual gearbox.
Subaru plans to roll out only 300 of these and the ones with the optional NBR package will be even more exclusive. Bookings will open in August and prices will range from 4.41 million Yen (Rs 26.60lakh) to 5.082 million Yen (Rs 30.65lakh) excluding taxes.
