Subaru has released teaser images of a performance focused tS variant of its BRZ sports car. The BRZ, (Boxer engine, Rear-wheel drive and Zenith) is a GT sports coupe and the tS badge will ensure it gets performance focused additions from Subaru’s in-house tuning wing STI.
Usually, the STI tuned Subaru models are full blown track focused variants of the standard model and bears the red STI badge on the front grille. The tS version though bearing the badge is a saner sibling that blends the best of both worlds. And so, the BRZ tS will not get any modifications to its underpinnings implying that the 203PS 2.0-litre boxer engine and the six-speed manual transmission will keep their place.
The STI modifications for the car are more focused on improving the handling of the car and for this reason will include six-pot Brembo brakes along with Bilstein suspension pieces. An improved high flow exhaust system will also be standard besides a few interior alterations.
The tS variant will be available in two trim; the top spec featuring Recaro seats, black alloy wheels, and a carbon-fibre rear spoiler. Subaru will limit the production of the tS model to 750 examples like most of its STI variants.
The tS variant is a necessary step up for the allegedly underpowered BRZ which is otherwise considered to be the common man’s sports car, much like the original, Toyota Corolla Levin/ AE 86. But it is the possibly insane STI variant that will get our blood warmer as it is suspected to have forced induction and performance focused styling.
