The current generation of the Subaru BRZ is a sporty coupe churning out a healthy 205bhp from its 2.0-litre naturally aspirated engine. That being said, the manufacturers are now working on a more potent version of the car; STI (Subaru Tecnica International). The STI badge is often worn by the tweaked up cars from Subaru which have more performance on offer than their usual standard versions.
The recent spy shots of the Subaru BRZ reveal that the STI variant is in works. The prototype was spotted testing near Subaru’s office in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
The exterior of the car is very similar to the one showcased in Tokyo Auto Salon in January 2017. As we see in the spy pictures, the design and looks are faithful to the one seen on the concept car. To distinguish it from the standard version, the BRZ wears a more aggressive bumper with larger air intakes, chunkier side skirts and a wide/huge rear spoiler. The hood stays very identical to the standard variant of the Subaru BRZ. The vehicle sits on a set of multi spoke alloy wheels and the Brembo brake calipers are now painted in red.
The vehicle is expected to be powered by the same unit as the standard is equipped with. It is possible that the alleged BRZ STI is just a working upgrade for better usability of power. But, be prepared to shell out a few extra ponies compared to the standard version.
