The strike at the Hyundai facility entered its sixth day, even as the management claimed that production at the plants continues to be normal. The workers are demanding that certain employees dismissed in 2008 be reinstated on humanitarian basis.
Hyundai management does not recognize the striking union, which is affiliated to CITU. They claim that the company is adhering to all the terms agreed at the tripartite settlement arrived in December 2010. The management also confirms that there is another union called the United Union of Hyundai Employees which is official representative of workers and is not supporting the strike.
The striking workers on the other hand claim the support is increasing every day with 90 per cent of the employees working in body shop joining the agitation. About 450 employees out of the total 2,007 are currently part of the strike.
