Sold as the flagship SUV offering from Korean automaker SsangYong, the Rexton has been thoroughly enhanced for 2016. The SUV now gets an upgraded Euro 6 compliant powertrain including a new engine and a 7-speed automatic from Mercedes-Benz.
The newly developed 2.2-litre diesel engine produces lower CO2 emissions and yet puts out 15 per cent more power than the outgoing model in the UK. Developing 178bhp and 400Nm of torque, the bigger 2.2-litre unit also makes more torque than the old Euro 5, 2-litre diesel engine. Besides a 6-speed manual, the 2016 Rexton also gets a new 7-speed automatic gearbox from Mercedes-Benz.
Built on a steel ladder chassis, the 2016 SsangYong Rexton features a double wishbone and coil spring suspension at the front and a five link rigid axle with coil springs at the rear, while the EX automatic and ELX models feature multi-link rear suspension for better ride quality.
Available with either five or seven seats for the UK market, the top-spec Rexton range features beige/grey leather interior, new multi-function steering wheel, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, front and rear parking sensors, auto-dipping rear view mirror, heated rear seats and GPS navigation as standard.
The 2016 SsangYong Rexton is now on sale in the UK with prices ranging between £22,995 (RS 23.04 lakh) for the entry-level SE variant, going all the way up to £28,995 (Rs 29.05 lakh) for the top-spec ELX automatic variant.
