The Mahindra Ssangyong Rexton W has been spotted in partial camouflage by our friends at Indian Autos Blog in Mumbai ahead of its launch on October 17. The SUV will be the first offering from the Korean automaker to the Indian market that will compete with premiums SUVs like the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Mitsubishi Pajero, Chevrolet Captiva and others.
The Rexton W is the new upgraded version that was unveiled at the 2012 Busan Motor Show in Korea and is currently on sales in 66 countries. Most importantly the new Rexton looks significantly better and premium than the predecessor with an all-new front end with projector headlamps and daytime LED lights, chrome grille, new bumpers with integrated fog lamps and LED indicators.
Mahindra has not specified details of the engine, but we suspect that Rexton W will get a four cylinder 2.0-litre diesel engine producing 152bhp and 367Nm of torque. We can expect a six-speed manual at the time of launch. Ssangyong might also offer an automatic variant a little later on.
The Rexton W will be launched across India in a phased manner. After the Mumbai launch it will immediately be made available in the metro cities of New Delhi and Bangalore. We expect Ssangyong Rexton prices to start around Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom Maharashtra).
