Mahindra Ssangyong will launch its SUV the Rexton W in Mumbai on October 17. Unveiled at the 2012 Busan Motor Show, the Rexton W (in the words of the company: Work of Art) is the first car from the Korean manufacturer for the Indian market and will compete with premium SUVs like the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and the Chevrolet Captiva.
Upgrades to this seven seater include projector headlamps, daytime LED lights, new bumpers, integrated fog lamps and LED indicators. The SUV also gets black treatment around the bottom along with flared wheel arches.
Mahindra has not confirmed the specifications of the Rexton W, but it will most likely be powered by a new 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine developing 152bhp and 367Nm of torque. Ssangyong will be banking on fuel economy of the SUV that is around 14kpl with 2WD and the automatic transmission for marketing. There is also a 200bhp version of the same engine which might be introduced in India later.
To generate hype around the debut, a website for the SUV, http://www.ssangyongrexton.in/ has also been launched. The Korean automaker has been releasing teaser videos of the vehicle with the tagline ‘coming soon’ for the last two days on the website.
The Rexton W will be launched across India in a phased manner. After the Mumbai launch it will immediately be made available in the metro cities of New Delhi and Bangalore. We expect Ssangyong Rexton prices to start around Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom Maharashtra)
