After the acquisition of Ssangyong, Mahindra had already announced that the Korean brand will be brought into India. The first new vehicle to roll out will be Korando and it seems that Rexton will follow. This more-so because one of our readers has spot the Rexton II testing in India.
The Korando will be the first Ssangyong model that will enter the Indian car market. The Rexton II is the next to follow. The Korando has a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine that churns out 175bhp and 360Nm of torque. The Korando is a 5-seater and is likely to be launched before the year end.
The Rexton is based on Mercedes-Benz M-Class and was styled by Giorgietto Giugiaro’s Italdesign studio. At present, the second generation of the Rexton is on sale and comes with an option of 5 or 7-seat. It is an off-roader and has a permanent 4x4 drive, which torque is supplied as per demand.
Talking of the mechanicals, it gets a 5-cylinder 2.7-litre common rail diesel engine that produces close to 165bhp and a maximum torque of 340Nm. This comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and even an option of 5-speed automatic transmission that is designed by Mercedes-Benz. The Rexton is expected to land on the Indian shores by early next year.
