Korean carmaker SsangYong has certainly taken some design improvement lessons this time. The proof being the Rexton W with upgraded design that will soon be arriving in the UK. This year it has already launched a facelifted version of the Korando which was well received and now with the Rexton W it is going full steam ahead.
Three variants are available in Britain: SX manual, EX manual and EX auto. The prices start from £21,995 (Rs 21.90 lakh) onwards for the base EX model. All are powered by a Euro 5-compliant 2.0-litre e-XDi turbodiesel engine that delivers 153bhp with 360 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a standard six-speed manual transmission, with a five-speed Mercedes-Benz T-Tronic automatic being available as an option. There is a selectable four-wheel drive with low range.
Inside, the cabin features a refreshed look thanks to the aluminum-effect and chrome finishes. The SsangYong Rexton W has seven seats. Standard equipment includes cruise control, air conditioning, electric and heated door mirrors, leather covered steering wheel and gear knob, and radio CD with iPod and Bluetooth connectivity. The EX model also gets an electrically operated memory driver’s seat, leather upholstery, privacy glass, sunroof and rear parking sensors.
Active safety features include Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Active Rollover Protection (ARP), ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Hill Descent Control (HDC). Dual front and side airbags are standard as well.
India has already seen the Rexton W, it was launched in October last year. This is the first Ssangyong SUV to come to India. This is also the result of a partnership between Mahindra and Ssangyong. Here it is offered in two variants Ssangyong Rexton RX5 (Rs 18.99 lakh) and Ssangyong Rexton RX7 (Rs 21.23 lakh) respectively. The Rexton comes to India as a CKD and has some level of localization as well.
