Our intrepid spy photographer has struck again, this time with images of VW cars doing what seems to be engine benchmarking with the Jetta.
Our source claims that the two masked Jettas you see in the image were accompanied by the Hyundai Verna and the Fiat Linea Multijet. There was no badging on the Jettas, and they were going so quickly that the telltale puffs of smoke that will usually give away a diesel engine when driven hard were impossible to spot. They finally took a breather at a petrol pump where they were caught on film the red car on the left is the same Seat Ibiza we spotted at the factory in Chakan, running on Indian tyres Apollo Acceleres. This is also of interest, since the Ibiza you see is the latest-generation one, which shares the same platform as the upcoming VW Polo which will be launched at the Auto Expo in Delhi in January 2010. We wonder if VW is benchmarking engines for the Polo or simply doing reliability runs for its current powerplants. Whatever the reason, VW plans for India seem to be in full swing. Watch out, world!
