Spec Comparison: Tata Tiago Vs Renault Kwid 1.0 Vs Maruti Suzuki Alto K10

The Tiago hatchback has been a game changer for Tata Motors in India. However, the vehicle faces stiff competition from the Renault Kwid 1.0 and the ever popular Maruti Suzuki Alto in the K10 version. However, the Tiago has an additional advantage as it offers the diesel engine option, while the other two are limited to a petrol engine. Here below is a brief list of features in that you expect from each of the models.

Mechanically, the petrol version of the Tiago is powered by a 1.2-litre three cylinder Revotron engine that generates 84bhp of power at 6000rpm and 114Nm of torque. The diesel version on the other hand gets a 1.05-litre turbocharged engine that generates 70bhp of power and 140Nm of torque from 1800rpm. The Kwid 1.0-litre is powered by a 999cc engine that generates 67bhp of power at 5,500rpm and 91Nm of torque at 4,250rpm. The Alto K10 gets a 1.0-litre three pot K10B petrol engine that generates 67bhp and 90Nm of torque. All the three cars are available in five-speed manual and AMT options.

In terms of design, the Tiago is based on the Tata’s HorizonNext design language with a wide mesh grille and swept back headlamps. The tail design is modern and fresh with the horizontal tail lamps. Body coloured bumpers are standard on the Tiago and so is the rear spoiler. Alloy wheels, wing mirrors with turn indicators, rear wash and wipe function are all available only on the top spec XZ variant. The Renault Kwid gets an SUV stance owing to its flared wheel arches and a forward leaning design element that gives it a muscular appeal. The vehicle gets a honeycomb grille on the front along with aggressive front bumper design. The side profile reveals the heavily flared wheel arches and a forward leaning stance. There is plastic cladding at the base of the doors which are the colour of the wheel arches and basically serve the purpose of rub strips. At the rear, the glass section is small and slopes forward while there is a sharp lip on the middle of the boot door. The plastic cladding sits right below the boot door and houses the number plate. In comparison to the Alto 800, the Alto K10 gets larger chrome grille and upside down rectangular air intake. The vehicle also gets flared wheel arches and larger ORVMs than the regular model.

The Tiago gets the traditional roomy cabin like its older siblings. The top spec variant also offers ConnectNext infotainment system and gets four tweeters along with four speakers. Dual front airbags, height adjustable seats with adjustable headrests are offered as an option from the XE trim but without ABS. Driver footrest, folding rear seat, tinted glasses and internally adjustable wing mirrors are standard across the range. ABS and EBD with corner stability control is available only on the top spec XZ along with the two airbags. The Kwid being a budget offering from Renault, it does not get too many fancy features. A 7-inch touchscreen Media-Nav system, digital instrument cluster, remote keyless entry with central locking, one-touch lane change indicator and front fog lamps is offered in the top-spec variant.  The Alto K10 gets beige seats which claims to offer airy cabin. It has been scooped out the back of the front seats to marginally increase the legroom for rear seat occupants, although the Alto 800 and the K10 have the same wheelbase. Features are limited to basics in form of piano black coloured 2-DIN unit with support for AUX, USB in addition to a CD player, power windows, central locking and power steering.

On the performance aspect between Tiago petrol scores extra brownie points, while the Kwid and the Alto K10 fair more or less the same. The Tiago is also coincidentally the most affordable as it is offered at a starting price of Rs 3.21 lakhs. The Alto K10 comes second as its starts at Rs 3.26 lakhs and the Kwid 1.0 is the most expensive option as it starts at Rs 3.49 lakhs (Ex-showroom, Delhi). The Tiago emerges as a better choice among the rest as it offers better space and performance than the other two. The Kwid might appeal for those who loved the SUV stance. While, the Alto K10 is someone who needs a no-fuss car.
