Competition in the luxury car segment has only got tougher with the launch of the new Range Rover SVAutobiography Dynamic. Priced at Rs 2.79 crore, the newest of the Range Rover is at loggerheads with the popular Mercedes-Benz S-Class Maybach S600 which is offered at Rs 2.76 crore (Both, ex-showroom Delhi). Although it might sound pricey to most of us, owning one of these is a clear indication of having arrived in life.
Under the hood, the newly launched Range Rover SVAutobiography Dynamic gets a 5-litre supercharged V8 engine that generates 543bhp of power. The Maybach S600 gets a bigger 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 engine that generates 530bhp of power and 830Nm of torque. In terms of performance figures, both the vehicles have emerged as brilliant performers. The Range Rover SVAutobiography Dynamic offers a fine balance between tackling the off-road trails with all the modern electronics without compromising on the luxury aspect, while the Maybach lets you stretch your legs on those long distance highway runs.
In terms of design, the newly introduced Range Rover SVAutobiography has been created by Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) team. To give it a distinct appeal from the regular Range Rover, the SVAutobiography gets unique graphite atlas accents and distinctive red Brembo branded calipers. The vehicle also gets exclusive wheels that adds to its overall performance appeal. The S-Class Maybach S600, on the other hand, gets a sophisticated styling approach. Although the exterior might be passed off as another S-Class, on closer look, it reveals the double M badges on the C-Pillar and a prominent Maybach word being splashed across the boot lid. To distinguish it from the regular version, the Maybach is also 27cm longer and offers an additional 20cm between the wheels.
Inside the cabin, the Range Rover SVAutobiography offers diamond quilted seats with a choice of four colours and unique ‘Autobiography’ stitching. The vehicle also gets an InControl Touch Pro infotainment system with a 10-inch touchscreen display. The vehicle also gets a rotary shifter, Grand Black front and rear door veneers with unique red key line. The Maybach S600, on the other hand, gives luxury a whole new meaning. The vehicle offers 16-way massaging seats, 24-speaker Burmester music system, a large infotainment system and tinting glass roof.
Cars like these are all about the experience and the feel of owning them. Undoubtedly, both cars get the best of modern equipment that enriches the drive feel, but it is more about having a sense of being there, right on the top. Although at that price one can plan an international vacation or buy a diamond jewellery set for the wife, we cannot deny the joy of waking up every day just to drive or be driven around in one of these.
