The battle of the micro-SUVs has now gone into full swing with Maruti Suzuki launching the S-Presso and Renault launching a heavily updated version of the Kwid. They are both compacts but with the SUV styling to cash in on the latest demand from buyers.
Exterior
One concept, two approaches. That’s exactly what has happened here. Maruti Suzuki with the S-Presso has gone for the old school boxy SUV looks with elements like the square bonnet, visibly high stance as well as the high roofline. Renault, known for their quirky designs, went for a crossover appearance with the Kwid and in this latest update you can see the repositioned headlamps, updated Renault grille as well as the updated design for the tail lamps.
Interior
The facelifted Renault Kwid has been equipped with a new eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, piano black inserts for the new air vents and steering wheel as well as a fully digital instrument cluster. In the case of the S-Presso, the top-spec model gets front power windows, touchscreen infotainment system with Maruti Suzuki Smart Play and a fully digital instrument cluster.
Given that these are budget cars, their interiors have been geared towards cost effectiveness and in the case of the S-Presso, the centrally mounted cluster will also help in making the car cost effective for both RHD and LHD markets.
Performance
Powertrain options on the Renault Kwid facelift include the same 0.8-litre petrol engine and 1.0-litre petrol engine. These engines are paired to a five-speed manual transmission as standard while the 1.0-litre unit would be available with an AMT unit too. The S-Presso is only offered with the 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine. This mill produces 67bhp/90Nm and can be had with either a five-speed manual or a five-speed AMT.Â
Pricing
The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso range is priced from Rs 4.11 lakhs to Rs 5.44 lakhs (on-road Delhi) while the facelifted Kwid with two engine options goes from Rs 3.19 lakhs to Rs 4.61 lakhs for the 800cc versions and Rs 4.82 lakhs to Rs 5.37 lakhs for the 1.0-litre range (on-road Delhi). Â
