BASF, a company mainly into production of chemicals and developer of sustainable solutions for mobility, in collaboration with Daimler has unveiled the ‘Smart forvision’ concept car in India. The concept electric vehicle was originally unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, and features many innovative technologies with regard to design, temperature management and weight saving.
The concept EV is based on the German automakers Smart ‘fortwo’ city car and has been promoted by both companies as a glimpse of electric cars that will be produced in the future. It has been fitted with transparent organic solar cells, transparent organic light-emitting diodes, special plastic wheels, new light weight body parts, infrared-reflective films and coatings. All these components together are poised to help to reduce the vehicle's energy consumption and increase its efficiency.
The ‘Smart forvision’s’ styling is quite futuristic in part due to its innovative design and extensive use of LEDs all across the body. Daimler has not released any information in regards of the powertrain of the car, nor anything relating to the plans of putting it to production. We doubt if car will be production ready soon, but the technologies used will certainly be used in the next generation Smart fortwo.
