- Compact segment leads charge for volumes
- e Vitara India unveil in January 2025
November sales
Maruti Suzuki sales in November were led by its compact range of vehicles. This includes the cars from the Celerio to the newly launched Dzire compact sedan. These have been stalwarts for Maruti volumes for a long time now and saw a total of 61, 373 units compared to 64, 679 units in the corresponding period last year. Its mini range, the Alto and S-Presso sold 9750 units compared to 9959 units in November 2023. The compact and mini segment together sold 71, 123 units as compared to 74, 638 units in November 2023.
Closer than you would expect
However, while the compact segment may have been Maruti’s strength for November, its share has shrunk as evidenced by the month-on-month figure as well as the fact that its SUV range sold 59,003 as compared to 49,016 units in the corresponding period last year. It was a year of SUVs and UVs for Maruti in 2023 with the launch of the Jimny, Invicto and Fronx and of this, the Fronx has been the most successful hitting the one lakh mark in less than a year.
Change in perspective
What makes this even more interesting is the fact that in November 2022, Maruti sold 91,095 units in the compact and mini segment and 39000 units in the SUV and UV segment. The vast change in numbers in just two years is indicative of change in buyer preferences, something that looks irreversible in the near future.
e-Vitara unveil
While the new Dzire may have been the talk of the town for Maruti’s ICE range, it will finally open its EV innings at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo with the reveal of the e Vitara SUV. It’s their first Born Electric Vehicle and is being produced in India for global and domestic production. The car will be officially launched closer to March 2025.
