Skoda, as we know, is working on a new range- topping SUV with a sever-seater configuration. Now, it’s been said that this new flagship model will cost no more than £35,000 (Rs 34.46 lakh).
Codenamed A Plus, the new seven-seater reportedly will be a rival to the Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento in Europe, but won’t be priced near the £40,000 (Rs 39.38 lakh) mark of the top-spec version of the Kia. At present, the most expensive Skoda is the Superb L&K estate with the 3.6-litre V6 engine which is priced at £34,575 (Rs33.97 lakh). The V6 power unit, however, is not likely to be introduced in the upcoming SUV model.
Late last year, Skoda had revealed plans of expanding its SUV range to include an all-new seven-seater and a Citigo-based compact SUV. Now it seems clear that development for the first of the two is well underway. Skoda, reportedly, is already running a few prototypes as a part of the initial testing phrase.
Not many details are out on this unnamed model yet, but according to previous reports, Skoda could make use of the MQB-B architecture which will also underpin Volkswagen’s own new seven-seater SUV, due in the next couple of years.
