Skoda has launched the updated Yeti, in India, at a starting price of Rs 18.63 lakh (ex-showroom Maharashtra) for the Elegance 4X2 variant and Rs 20.14 lakh for the Elegance 4X4. The new Yeti will be available in two variants – Elegance 4X2 and Elegance 4X4.
Visually, the new Yeti differentiates itself from the outgoing model with the help of its rectangular headlamps, new fog lamps at the bottom of the bumper, and a more stylish wedge-shaped grille. The bumpers at the front and rear are new. The tail gate gets crease lines like the Rapid and Octavia, it gets tail lights with LED elements, and a new Skoda logo at the front and back. It gets new five-spoke alloy wheels and the skid plates at the front and rear are larger and more pronounced.
Inside, it gets a premium interior with a new three-spoke steering wheel, fake wood inserts and new panelling. Among the additions are cruise control, keyless entry and start function, audio system with Bluetooth connectivity, tyre pressure monitoring, and powered driver seat with memory function.
The Yeti will be powered by the 2-litre diesel engine to be available in two states of tune for the 4X2 and the 4X4 – 109 and 138bhp. The 4X2 model gets a five-speed gearbox whereas the 4X4 gets a six-speeder. Skoda India has only offered it in a single engine option like before and we aren’t expecting a petrol unit sooner.
They have taken a new approach to colours as well and one can personalise the car using different colour combinations like a silver or white roof along with a different body colour. The new approach to design and styling is to emphasise that Skoda wants to market it as a much personalised car.
The Yeti’s price puts it in a league of its own, it costs more than the Dusters and the XUVs, but it is cheaper than the Fortuners and the Santa Fes. Realistically it has no competition at its price; except its own sibling, the Octavia. Skoda didn’t manage to excite the typical SUV buyer with the outgoing model, which is what they will look to change with this product.
