Skoda will bring a facelifted version of its flagship sedan the Superb to the 2014 Auto Expo. On sale since the Czech automaker’s formative years in the country, the Superb has been one of the main players in the D-segment and is now expected to continue it successful run. The car is already on sale in most European markets and has been spotted testing near Mumbai City on multiple occasions.
Skoda’s flagship sedan will have some minor changes to the exterior. The new logo is featured on a new grille and is similar to the one on the Octavia. The front bumper is adorned by a honeycomb design. The A-pillar has been redesigned along with the alloy wheels. For the first time, Superb will be offered with bi-xenon headlights and integrated LED DRLs. Rear styling is also revised and now includes new rear lights with LED graphics which create a ‘C’ shape.
Added features on the new model include an Automatic Parking Assistant, electric sunroof with integrated solar cells, automatic lock and start system, with 6.5” colour touch screen and an integrated 30GB hard drive. The car has been awarded a five-star rating in the Euro NCAP crash test.
The facelifted Skoda Superb retains the same interiors as the current car and will be offered with black or beige interiors and leather upholstery. Standard features in terms of driver aids are expected to include six airbags, ABS, EBD, ESP, cruise control and traction control. In the cabin Skoda is offering a six-CD changer, rear parking sensors, electrically adjustable OVRMs, rain sensing wipers, touchscreen music system with more than six speakers.
The engine lineup for India will remain the same - the 1.8-litre TSI petrol, 3.6-litre V6 petrol and 2.0-litre TDI diesel. Skoda may also introduce two new colours to the India lineup - Moon White and Metal Grey.
The new Skoda Superb facelift will be a notch more expensive than the current model with additional features to compete with the VW Passat, Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord.
