Skoda India have teased the new Superb on their Indian website. The new generation Superb is based on the MQB platform and has been readied for the India launch, which we expect to happen soon.
The 2016 Skoda Superb will be the third generation of the car in India. The stately sedan is now in a modern avatar with projector headlamps with daytime running lamps, a chiselled moustache grille. While the side profile remains more or less the same, the tail gets a new set of LED tail lamps.
The Skoda Superb is synonymous with space and luxury and the new Superb gets all the bells and whistles. It gets a two-zone automatic climate control with rear AC vents, a touch-screen infotainment system with steering mounted controls and Bluetooth compatibility along with USB and Aux connectivity. It also gets a host of luxury features like power adjustable seats, push-button start and also a push-button to close the huge boot.
The Superb will continue to get the 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol TSi engine along with the 2.0-litre turbo-diesel like the current generation Superb. The petrol engine develops 158bhp of power and 250Nm of torque and is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox along with a seven-speed automatic DSG gearbox. The diesel powertrain gets only the six-speed automatic option and transmits the 138bhp of power and 320Nm of torque to the front wheels.
The new Superb will be pitched against the Volkswagen Passat, the Toyota Camry and the new Honda Accord and is expected to be priced at Rs 22 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi for the base manual transmission petrol car and will go up to Rs 27 lakh for the top end 2.0-litre diesel.
