The third generation Skoda Superb will be launched for the Indian market tomorrow at an event in Mumbai. The sedan is expected to be priced in the Rs 22 lakh to Rs 30 lakh price bracket and compete with the Volkswagen Passat, Honda Accord and the Audi A3.
After the Octavia, the 2016 Superb will become the second Skoda product in India to feature the company’s latest design language. The car is based on Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform and shares 50 per cent of the components with the 2015 VW Passat (B8). It is 75kg lighter than the outgoing model of the Superb, even when it is larger by 28mm in length, 47mm in width and 80mm in wheelbase.
The new Superb will be the flagship sedan in Skoda's Indian line-up and will be equipped with a lot of premium features. The car sports a multi-slat chrome front grille, projector headlamps with DRLs, C-shaped LED tail lamps and 18-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels. The cabin has heated seats, power-adjustable front seat with memory and lumbar support, a CANTON audio system, eight-inch Smartlink infotainment system and a triple-zone climate control.
The VW Group owned Czech automaker might slightly tweak the powertrains of the Superb for better fuel efficiency or performance. The engine options might include the 173bhp 1.8-litre TSI petrol mill and a new 1178bhp 2.0-litre TDI engine. These will come mated to a DSG gearbox, with the availability of a manual gearbox for the base variant, but at a later stage.
This 2016 Superb is the latest iteration of the car that was revealed by Skoda at an event in Prague earlier this year. It is touted to be the best luxury car of 2016 that comes armed with good looks and many new features. Stay tuned to CarWale as we will bring you all the updates from the launch tomorrow.
