Citigo is the name of Skoda's new city car and it shares its platform with the new Volkswagen Up, that was showcased at the Fraankfurt Motor Show. The Citigo will be on sale in Czech-Republic by this year end and will enter the other European market by early 2012. For the Indian car market, the Citigo will be positioned below the currently-sold Fabia. The Citigo is available with an option of 3-door and 5-door options, the Indian spec car will get the 5-door.
With the Citigo, Škoda is entering a new sector. “The demand for small cars with low fuel consumption, at a favourable price and with reasonable operating costs, is growing,” continues Prof. Vahland. “ŠKODA's new small vehicle is a reaction to this trend. We are entering new ground and the Citigo will attract prospects mainly in our European markets.”
The designers have given the car a distinct look that defines this as a new Skoda. The Citigo will measure just 3.56 metres long, 1.65 metres wide and 1.48 metres high. The boot volume is a sizeable 251 litres, which can be extended to 951 litres by folding down the rear seats.
The Citigo will come with two engine options, both being the 1.0-litre petrol engine, of which one produces a power of 60bhp and second's power is bumped up to 75bhp. Both these engines will come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
